18-year-old girl arrested for assaulting 3-year-old at Elon playground

An 18-year-old woman from Burlington faces a misdemeanor charge after she allegedly manhandled a three-year-old child at a public playground in Elon.

Bethany Alexis Paul was ultimately charged with assault on a juvenile under 12 of age following this incident, which reportedly occurred last Wednesday at Elon’s Beth Schmidt Park.

Court records indicate that the 18-year-old white female, who hails from 733 North Gurney Street in Burlington, was unrelated to the child in question – whose age is given as three years in a magistrate’s order that appears in the court file.

According to the magistrate’s order, Paul picked up the child from a piece of playground equipment and “dropped her off the side…from a high altitude,” causing “a lump” to appear on the three-year-old’s head.

Since her arrest, Paul has been released from Alamance County’s jail on a secured bond of $500. In addition, her release order forbids her to contact the child or the child’s immediate family and instructs her to “not go on or around any playgrounds in Alamance County.”
