A leading convenience store chain may be about to take a “Big Gulp” out of one of busiest thoroughfares in Burlington.
The city’s planning department received a set of architectural sketches last week for a prospective new 7-Eleven location at 2571 Maple Avenue.
Situated at the northwest corner of Maple Avenue’s intersection with Hanford Road, the site of the proposed convenience store had been home to a Shoney’s restaurant until the parent company announced the eatery’s closure in 2015.
The one-acre parcel is nevertheless located just south of the Maple Avenue’s interstate interchange – at the outer extremity of an area that city officials have targeted for a multimillion-dollar plan to overhaul the Maple Avenue corridor.
The submission which found its way to the city’s planning department comprises a single page of renderings. These drawings depict, among other things, visualizations of the proposed convenience store as well as a canopy to shelter four pairs of fuel pumps.
