Police in Burlington made a speedy arrest in a commercial break-in on Wednesday when the alleged culprit breached the cardinal rule of the experienced, professional criminal.
Hugo Calderon Chavez apparently returned to the scene of the crime after he tripped a burglar alarm as he forced his way into a Family Dollar at 908 East Webb Avenue.
According to Burlington’s police department, officers found the 26-year-old Burlington resident inside the store when they arrived at 1:14 a.m. The officers also noticed a shattered front door and damage to both merchandise and furnishings within the building.
In the course of their investigation, the officers learned that Chavez had left the business after the initial forced entry, only to reappear before they reached the scene. They consequently charged him with two felony counts of breaking and entering and damage to real property.
Chavez was jailed without bond immediately after his arrest.
