Only one team from Alamance County remains unbeaten going into the third week of the high school football season.
But there are plenty of opportunities for key victories Friday night, including the start of league competition in the Mid-Carolina Conference.
Games are scheduled for 7:00 p.m. starts unless noted. Here’s a look:
Southeast Alamance at Chatham Central
Southeast Alamance (2-0) avenged two non-conference losses and now embarks on its Mid-Carolina Conference schedule.
The Stallions posted their first-ever victory last year by clobbering Chatham Central 55-6.
The Bears (1-1) nipped visiting Central David-son 16-14 on Friday night, winning for the first time since 2022. That snapped an 18-game losing streak.
Cummings at Jordan-Matthews
In the Mid-Carolina Conference, Cummings (1-1) goes to Jordan-Matthews (1-1) for the second year in a row after a renovation project at its home stadium resulted in moving the 2023 matchup to Siler City.
The Cavaliers would welcome a similar result because they won 54-6 last year.
The Jets have struggled on offense, scoring a total of eight points in regulation in two games.
Graham at Bartlett Yancey
Bartlett Yancey (0-2) will play its third straight home game in this Mid-Carolina Conference opener after losses to High Point Andrews and Thomasville.
Graham (0-1) had last week off after falling to Southern Alamance in its opener.
Last year’s meeting in Graham was rather extended as it concluded several weeks after the game began because a security concern resulted in suspending the game.
Eastern Alamance at Northern Guilford
The Eagles (0-2) have lost no more than two regular-season games in any season since 2018.
Eastern has won the last five meetings with Northern Guilford since a one-point loss in 2017. The past three games were decided by a total of 14 points.
Northern Guilford (2-0) trounced Eastern Guilford and then survived for a 28-27 overtime victory against visiting New Bern. After back-to-back losing seasons, the Nighthawks might be back in a groove.
Southern Alamance at Chapel Hill
Southern (1-1) tries to get back on track after falling at home to Durham Jordan. Last year, the Patriots responded from a loss to Durham Jordan by winning their next 11 games.
Chapel Hill (0-2) is playing its second game in a row against a Central 3-A Conference team after falling 20-13 to Orange.
Southern has topped the Tigers in each of the past three seasons, averaging 50 points per game in those outings.
Western Alamance at North Stanly
Western (1-1) makes the trek to New London for the 7:30 p.m. game.
North Stanly (2-0) has given up a total of six points in capturing road victories against Anson and East Rowan.
Last year, Western topped visiting North Stanly 32-21 in its only non-conference game decided by a double-figure margin.
Williams at Southern Durham
Williams (1-1) will be in its first road game of the season after going 4-1 away from home in the regular season last year.
Williams’ 2023 home victory – with a 17-8 score – against the Spartans came in the first meeting since 2004.
Southern Durham (2-0) has won in different fashions, drilling Chapel Hill 49-30 and nipping Durham Hillside 7-6.
