The City of Burlington will recognize a National Day of Service and Remembrance in remembrance of the tragedy of September 11, 2001, as part of the Serve America Act approved by Congress in 2009 directing September 11th to be observed and recognized by participating in service and remembrance activities to remember the lives lost and to pay tribute to those who rose in service on that day in 2001.
The City has also asked first responders, houses of worship, and citizens to join the nation in the ringing of bells and sounding of sirens for one minute at 8:46 a.m. on Wednesday, September 11, in a “Moment of Remembrance” of the 9/11 tragedies that occurred twenty-one years ago at that time.
Each of the City’s six fire stations will ring their bells and sound engine sirens for one minute, joined by members of the Burlington Police Department sounding the sirens of their squad cars positioned.
During this moment, the City of Burlington is encouraged to join in this show of solidarity and remembrance by ringing bells or waving American flags at 8:46 a.m.
