James Newton scored both Western Alamance touchdowns, and the Warriors were stingy on defense on the way to winning their third consecutive game, putting the clamps on visiting Eastern Guilford in Friday night’s 17-7 non-conference victory.
Western (3-1) intercepted three Eastern Guilford passes. Hamilton Plunkett, Jayden Jones, and Will Clinkscales had the pickoffs.
Noah Barrett’s 28-yard field goal began the scoring for the Warriors. Newton scored on a 61-yard pass play from Ethan Oakley in the second quarter and later added a 5-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
The Wildcats (0-3) scored in the fourth quarter.
Williams 49, Eden Morehead 7: At Eden, Dan Mahan threw four touchdown passes and the visiting Bulldogs rolled to their third consecutive non-league victory.
Mahan threw for 21 yards to Kyrian Fuller, 1 yard to Andrews Cruz, 4 yards to Bron Rogers, and 41 yards to Zach Powell.
Kris Rogers had scoring runs of 2 and 25 yards, helping Williams (3-1) build a 42-0 halftime lead.
Jazian Bigelow added a fourth-quarter touchdown run.
Southern Nash 22, Southern Alamance 20: At Mt. Hermon, Southern Nash’s Tylik Mitchell ran for the winning points on a 48-yard sprint with 1:02 remaining, so Southern Alamance’s two earlier failed two-point conversion plays proved costly in the non-league home loss.
The Patriots (2-2) went ahead on Justin Donley’s 19-yard run with 2:02 to play, but it didn’t last long as Southern Nash (4-0) went 61 yards on the go-ahead possession.
The Patriots scored first on Nathan McNeal’s 52-yard pass play to Jacob Alexander. The margin was 12-0 by the end of the first quarter, with McNeal hooking up with Jvan Hamby on a 15-yard pass.
Southern Nash converted on both its two-point conversion plays in the first half after touchdown runs by Mitchell.
Donley finished with 70 rushing yards on 18 carries. McNeal threw for 168 yards.
Reidsville 45, Eastern Alamance 14: At Reidsville, the Rams avenged their only 2023 loss, pulling away in the second half of the non-league game.
Reidsville (4-0) scored the first two touchdowns in the second half and held a double-digit lead the rest of the way.
Eastern (0-4) was within 14-7 at halftime, scoring on Zack Merchel’s pass. Their second-half touchdown came on Tyrek Samuel’s run with 7½ minutes to play in the third quarter.
Cummings 56, Bartlett Yancey 20: At Burlington, the host Cavaliers (3-1, 2-0 Mid-Carolina Conference) put up a big point total for the second week in a row.
Bartlett Yancey fell to 1-3, 1-1.
Southeast Alamance 41, Northwood 6: At Haw River, the host Stallions avenged a 2023 defeat for the third time this season, cruising in the Mid-Carolina Conference game.
Southeast (4-0, 2-0) led 21-6 by the end of the first quarter. Northwood is 1-3, 1-1.
Seaforth 50, Graham 6: At Graham, the Red Devils (0-3, 0-2) suffered a Mid-Carolina Conference loss.
Seaforth (1-1, 1-0) hadn’t played since August 23, but looked sharp in this matchup.
