Two juveniles have been taken into custody after they allegedly posted violent threats against area schools on various social media platforms.
The office of Alamance County’s sheriff filed criminal charges against both of these young miscreants on Monday after the anonymous threats popped up on various social media platforms on Thursday, September 12.
According to the sheriff’s office, the authors of these posts were eventually identified thanks to assistance from the municipal police departments in Burlington, Mebane, and Graham as well as the cooperation of the social media platforms themselves.
The sheriff’s office hasn’t revealed the names of the two suspects because of their age. It stresses, however, that each youngster faces a felony charge for threatening to commit acts of mass violence on educational property. The agency also asserts that it took these threats at face value even though its investigators deemed them to be completely unfounded within a day of their appearance.
“The Alamance County sheriff’s office is committed to the protection and safety of our students and staff,” the agency went on to note in a formal statement on Tuesday. “We will always take every threat of violence seriously. We ask parents, grandparents, and caregivers of students to help us re[i]nforce the importance of useful social media posts, and the consequences of threatening and inappropriate posts.”
