There are rematches of 2023 drama-filled games in the Central 3-A Conference in a couple of matchups in high school football this week.
For Eastern Alamance and Graham, they’ll be playing twice in a five-night stretch after losses in Monday night’s make-up games.
No Alamance County team leaves the county Friday night. Games begin at 7:00 p.m. Cummings and Western Alamance are off.
Here’s a look:
Williams at Eastern Alamance
The last three meetings between these teams have been decided by a total of seven points, with two Eastern victories coming in overtime. Williams snapped an 11-game losing streak in the series with last year’s 36-35 Central 3-A Conference triumph courtesy of a late successful two-point conversion.
Williams (5-1, 2-0) has lost only one conference road game in a four-season stretch and that came in 2022 at Eastern.
The Eagles (0-5, 0-1) are averaging less than 10 points per game.
Roxboro Person at Southern Alamance
Both teams have defeated winless Cedar Ridge by shutouts for their lone Central 3-A Conference victories.
Southern (3-3, 1-1) has allowed more than 20 points in its three losses. Roxboro Person (4-1, 1-0), which was off last week, is averaging 38 points per game.
Southern running back Justin Donley has scored at least one touchdown in every game for a total of 11.
The Patriots won 36-29 last year in Roxboro, squandering a big lead before recovering.
Jordan-Matthews at Southeast Alamance
Southeast (5-0, 3-0), coming off an open week, will play the first of three consecutive home games. A victory would pull the Stallions even with Cummings atop the Mid-Carolina Conference.
Jordan-Matthews (2-4, 1-1) has lost its past two games, failing to score against Northwood and North Moore. The Jets have allowed an average of 52.3 points in its last three defeats.
Chatham Central at Graham
This Mid-Carolina Conference game involves the only teams without a league victory.
Graham (0-5, 0-3) has defeated the Bears (1-5, 0-4) the past three seasons. Those account for three of the Red Devils’ last seven victories.
