Tyrek Samuel ran 10 yards for a touchdown in overtime, and Tate Yount kicked the winning extra point as Eastern Alamance defeated visiting Roxboro Person 22-21 in Central 3-A Conference football Friday night.
The Eagles forced overtime on Yount’s short field goal with 1:47 left in regulation on homecoming.
The Rockets (5-3 overall, 2-2 Central 3-A Conference), whose league title aspirations were dashed, scored first in overtime, but an extra-point kick was blocked by Jamarrie Stump.
Samuel scored the first two touchdowns on runs of 3 and 40 yards for the Eagles (2-6, 2-2), who won for the second week in a row,
Roxboro Person led 7-6 at halftime and 15-12 after three quarters.
Southern Alamance 42, Orange 14: At Hillsborough, Justin Donley scored four touchdowns and rushed for 177 yards as the Patriots responded after spotting the host Panthers a 14-point lead in the Central 3-A Conference game.
Orange (2-7, 1-4), playing in its home finale, scored on Kyse Devore’s 53-yard pass to Justin Torain and, following a successful onside kick, Devore’s 25-yard strike to Kayden Bradsher.
Donley’s 7-yard run, Drake Davis’ 16-yard run, and Nathan McNeal’s 56-yard pass to Donley in the second quarter pushed the Patriots (5-3, 3-1) into the lead.
Donley padded the lead with a 4-yard run in the third quarter and a 1-yard plunge on the first play of the fourth quarter. Jacob Alexander’s 22-yard run finished the TD parade for Southern.
Donley had 25 carries.
Western Alamance 54, Cedar Ridge 0: At Elon, James Newton returned the opening kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown and the host Warriors cruised.
Newton also ran for two touchdowns. Hamilton Plunkett, Collin Moylan,and Jordan Hall also rushed for touchdowns. Noah Barrett had field goals of 32 and 33 yards.
Thomas Bullard, Bennett Berntson, and Will Clinkscales had interceptions for Western (6-2, 3-1). Clinkscales returned his pickoff 35 yards for at touchdown.
Cedar Ridge is 0-9, 0-5.
Cummings 49, Northwood 28: At Burlington, Devin Witherspoon scored four touchdowns, and Jaidyn Briskey ran for three touchdowns as Cummings needed a strong fourth quarter for a key Mid-Carolina Conference home victory.
The Cavaliers (7-1, 6-0) never led until 4:19 left in the third quarter on Briskey’s 1-yard run. His 6-yard run on the first play of the fourth quarter broke another tie.
Witherspoon scored the next two touchdowns on runs of 4 and 46 yards. Briskey’s 30-yard run marked the last touchdown.
Witherspoon scored on first-half TD runs of 43 and 5 yards.
Northwood is 5-4, 5-2.
Southeast Alamance 44, Seaforth 7: At Haw River, the Stallions stayed unbeaten by winning their regular-season home finale in the Mid-Carolina Conference.
Southeast (8-0, 6-0) won despite giving up only its second touchdown in a four-game stretch.
Seaforth is 2-5, 2-4.
North Moore 49, Graham 0: At Graham, the Mustangs (4-4, 4-2) controlled the Mid-Carolina Conference game.
Graham is 1-7, 1-5.
Williams had the night off.
