Alamance Community College has named Sandvik Coromant of Mebane as its 2024 Business Partner of the Year, an award that honors local businesses and industries that provide support to ACC students and graduates.
The metal-cutting machine tools manufacturer has operated a plant in Mebane for many years, but most recently opened an additional production facility in Mebane and moved its U.S. headquarters to an existing site at 295 Maple Lane in Mebane in May 2021.
ACC officials highlighted Sandvik’s contributions to the community college in announcing its selection as the 2024 Business Partner of the Year. In addition to hiring numerous ACC graduates over the past 40 years, Sandvik has donated nearly $300,000 to support ACC students and its Computer-Integrated Machining program; donated 70 Surface Pro laptops valued at $15,000 for ACC students and faculty in 2023; established several partnerships between ACC and the Alamance-Burlington school system; and partnered with ACC’s Corporate Education Department to provide customized training and apprenticeships, among other contributions.
ACC’s Business Partner of the Year award recognizes local businesses or agencies that provide outstanding support to ACC students and graduates in the number and quality of volunteers provided to the College; opportunities provided by the organization for current ACC students; the number of ACC graduates hired annually; and the level of financial support for the ACC Foundation and community college.
Speakers during ACC’s Public Officials Breakfast Wednesday morning included: Senator Amy Galey, who represents Alamance County and portions of Randolph County in the General Assembly; ACC president Dr. Ken Ingle; and ACC Foundation board of directors president Jackie Cole.
