An 18-year-old from Graham faces a catalog of felony violations after he allegedly led members of Haw River’s police force on a high speed chase that ended when the suspect crashed into a home within Graham’s city limits.
According to Haw River’s police department, police officers initially tried to pull over David Aguilera Ramos along Graham Road after they saw him commit “multiple motor vehicle violations” shortly after midnight last Wednesday.
The 18-year-male, who resides at 507 Kernodle Drive in Graham, initially slowed down when he noticed the officers’ blue lights, only to gun his 2011 Chrysler and speed into the municipal limits of Graham.
According to Haw River’s police department, Ramos led the town’s police officers on a high-speed pursuit for roughly three quarters of a mile, which finally ended when he ran off the roadway and slammed into a residential structure. Ramos was then airlifted to an area hospital for treatment while the town’s police officers took stock of the crimes that the suspect had committed during the chase.
The town’s police department went on to charge Ramos with a felony for fleeing to elude arrest along with misdemeanors for reckless driving with wanton disregard and resisting an officer. Ramos also faces additional felonies for the possession of LSD and cocaine, misdemeanors for the possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and an illegally concealed weapon, and traffic violations for speeding at 70 miles an hour through a 35-mile-an-hour zone, failing to surrender his registration tag, driving without vehicle insurance, failing to burn his headlights or properly illuminate his license plate, and driving left of the center line.
According to court records, the police department filed an additional felony charge against Ramos on Friday for the alleged possession of a weapon of mass destruction – specifically a conversion device that transforms a Glock-style handgun into a fully automatic weapon.
Court records indicate that the bond for Ramos has been set at $20,000.
