Boys’ basketball teams for The Burlington School and Burlington Christian Academy have had roster adjustments since the season began.
Sophomore King Gibson left The Burlington School this month, going to Montverde Academy in Florida.
Montverde, which fields multiple teams, plays a national high school schedule. Cooper Flagg, now a Duke freshman, came out of that program.
Recruiting services have Gibson listed as high as No. 15 overall for the Class of 2027.
Gibson, a 6-foot-5 guard, had been a dynamic player for the Spartans as a freshman last season. His 9.8 points per game were the second-most on the 2023-24 team.
This season, Gibson had averaged a team-leading 18.8 points per game in 10 outings for the Spartans. He also was tops with 5.3 assists per game.
BCA lost Ian Bush, who began the season with the Royals. Last season, the swingman was the team’s second-leading scorer at 12.2 points per game and was a key player in the most successful season in team history.
Earlier this month in the first game without Gibson, TBS blew past visiting BCA 70-41.
Drew Johnson scored 21 points, Kaden Hammond racked up 16 points and 14 rebounds and Cam Flippen notched 13 points, eight rebounds and six assists for the Spartans.
That was the first meeting between the teams since the Royals knocked off TBS in an upset in the quarterfinals of the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association’s Class 2-A state playoffs last February. Now, the teams are in the same league (Central Carolina Athletic Conference).
The teams are slated for a rematch January 31 at BCA.
