Western Alamance’s girls’ team holds the highest seed of any Alamance County team for the basketball state playoffs.
The Warriors are seeded No. 2 in the Class 3-A East Region bracket.
The North Carolina High School Athletic Association released the pairings and seeds Sunday night. First-round games are Tuesday night.
It takes six victories to win a state championship. The regional finals and state championship games are next month at Joel Coliseum in Winston-Salem.
In bracket oddity, both Williams teams (boys and girls) will meet Southern Durham in the first round.
Girls
Western Alamance (22-4), the Central 3-A Conference champion, has a matchup at home with No. 31 seed Northern Nash. The Warriors bashed host Orange 76-38 in Saturday’s conference tournament final.
Fayetteville Sanford is the top seed in the region.
Eastern Alamance (13-12) is seeded No. 22, heading to No. 11 seed South Brunswick.
Williams (15-10) is the No. 24 seed, going to No. 9 seed Southern Durham.
In Class 2-A, Southeast Alamance (23-3) is the No. 12 seed with a home game against No. 21 seed Greene Central. The Stallions were Mid-Carolina Conference co-champions in the regular season.
Co-champion Seaforth snapped host Southeast’s 15-game winning streak in a 60-46 decision in Friday night’s conference tournament final. The Hawks made seven 3-pointers compared to Southeast’s two.
In Class 1-A, Clover Garden (17-7) was dubbed the No. 21 seed, meaning a visit to No. 12 seed Pamlico.
Boys
Eastern Alamance holds the No. 15 seed with a home game against Triton in Class 3-A.
The Eagles (16-9) lost 67-65 to Central 3-A Conference champion Roxboro Person in the conference tournament final at Orange.
No. 25 seed Western Alamance (13-11) has an assignment at No. 8 seed Southern Lee.
No. 31 seed Williams (11-15) has that aforementioned matchup with second-seeded Southern Durham.
- In Class 2-A, as the No. 15 seed, Southeast Alamance has a home game with No. 18 seed Midway. The Stallions (21-6) were the Mid-Carolina Conference runners-up.
Northwood drilled Southeast 60-37 behind Cam Fowler’s 28 points and Chad Graves’ 20 points in Friday night’s league tournament title game.
- In Class 1-A, Clover Garden (10-12), with the No. 32 seed, goes to top-seeded Washington County.
