Mebane continued its reputation for having the highest paid city officials in the county, as the city council gave a $8,000 raise for assistant city manager Chris Rollins, who is taking over this week as city manager.

The council voted unanimously Monday night to give Rollins, who has been assistant city manager for the past eight years, the same salary that David Cheek, who retired this week, had: $199,000.  Rollins, as the assistant city manager, had been making $191,000 prior to Monday night’s city council action, according to the city.

Mayor Ed Hooks made the recommendation to his colleagues to give Rollins the increase, which was adopted unanimously.
