The Alamance Christian School boys’ golf team won the North Carolina Christian School Association’s state championship for the third year in a row and the 11th time in program history.
The Warriors had a 334 total in the state tournament last week at Grandover Resort’s East Course in Greensboro, with Wilmington Christian the runner-up at 339 and Cramerton Christian third at 343.
“Really proud of the boys and how they hung in there on a tough course at Grandover,”ACS coach Scott Yakola said. “We didn’t play our best, but we just kept grinding the entire round. Our depth from 2 through 6 really helped.”
Junior Holden Yakola of ACS placed third individually at 5-over-par 77.
Joshua Cline was eighth with 84, Owen Anderson was ninth with 85 and Garrett Brown’s 88 rounded out the Warriors’ scoring. Cline and Anderson were normally the team’s No. 3 and 5 scorers.
ACS, with a 15-3 record for the season, went undefeated in NCCSA competition and was the Central District champion.
“We had a really good season and all that is because of the hard work the boys put in,” Scott Yakola said. “We lose two seniors, Levi Beck and Bradean Kidd, but return a solid core next year so hopefully we can keep it going.”
