Williams pulled away from Eastern Alamance for a 31-22 victory in a Mid-Carolina Conference football tussle Friday night at Burlington Memorial Stadium.
Williams (7-1 overall, 5-0 Mid-Carolina Conference) has won six consecutive games. Kyrian Fuller had a touchdown pass to Braeden Vetter.
When Douglas Kittrells, Jr. scored in the third quarter on a reverse and Samuel Raphael added a two-point conversion run, the Eagles (3-5, 2-3) were within 17-14.
But Williams expanded the margin with two touchdowns later in the quarter, including one on a fourth-down play. Jamez Cochran added a touchdown run for the Eagles.
Williams led 10-0 at the end of the first quarter before Raphael ran for a touchdown. It was 17-6 at halftime.
Southern Alamance 42, Roxboro Person 18: At Roxboro, Sincere Thompson ran for three touchdowns and 188 yards, while quarterback Tustin Johnson scored on two first-half runs as the Patriots remained in contention for the Mid-Carolina Conference championship.
Thompson’s touchdowns came on plays of 7, 6, and 26 yards. All of Southern’s 333 yards came on the ground.
Southern (5-3, 4-1) never trailed, though it was aided by a second-quarter fumble recovery that soon after resulted in Johnson’s 6-yard run and a 21-6 lead. Johnson earlier scored from 4 yards out.
Logan Williams’ return of a Roxboro Person fumble set up Jacob Alexander’s 4-yard touchdown run for a 35-12 edge in the third quarter.
Roxboro Person (4-4, 2-3) had a two-game winning streak snapped.
Southeast Alamance 71, Graham 0: At Graham, the visiting Stallions led 35-0 before the midway mark of the second quarter.
Southeast (4-3, 1-3) snapped a two-game losing streak. Among the highlights, former Graham player Josh Grant returned a punt for a touchdown and Zaydin Harris scored on an interception return. D.J. Callis ran for three touchdowns.
Graham (0-7, 0-4) was blanked for the third game in a row.
Orange 38, Carrboro 12: At Carrboro, the visiting Panthers picked up their first victory under former Southern Alamance coach Fritz Hessenthaler.
Hessenthaler last directed a victory in the 2023 regular-season finale when Southern defeated visiting Western Alamance to clinch an outright conference championship. He was fired prior to Southern’s next game.
Orange (1-7, 1-2 Big Seven Conference) had lost 10 consecutive games in a losing skid that lasted more than a calendar year. Carrboro (0-8, 0-3) has lost its last 12 games.
