Mebane’s monthly city council meeting for December got off to its regular start, except with the swearing in on recently-reelected council members.
Sworn in were Montrena Hadley, 58, for her second, four-year term; district court judge Larry Brown administered the oath as city clerk Stephanie Shaw held the Bible. Hadley’s husband, Michael, also participated in his wife’s swearing-in.
Hadley was the leading vote-getter in the November elections (with 1,114 votes) that also saw the reelection of long-time councilman and mayor pro tem Tim Bradley (with 881 votes) and fellow first-term councilman Jonathan White (with 819 votes). Challengers Blair Helms and Rick Thomas were well back with 241 and 201 votes, respectively; 48 votes were cast for write-in candidates.
Bradley, 70, and White, 56, were sworn into their new council terms by city clerk Shaw.
Bradley was then sworn in again after unanimously being reelected as the city’s mayor pro tem.
