Graham mayor dissents on location for Tues. special meeting

Sometimes even where to hold a city council meeting can be controversial.

Graham’s city council is planning to have a special meeting next Tuesday, and city manager Megan Garner had arranged to have the meeting in the conference room at the Alamance County Board of Elections, 1128 South Main Street.

But mayor Chelsea Dickey expressed concern that having the meeting there would not allow the meeting to be broadcast, whereas the city could use its regular taping system for “live-streaming” at city hall.

But Dickey’s objection was not going over well with other council members, who seemed willing to go to the special location.

Ultimately, Dickey and other council members agreed to the elections board location after councilman Jim Young offered to use his own video equipment to record the January 20 meeting.

While it will not be “live streamed,” the city’s IT people will work to get it up on the city’s website, so that residents can view the proceedings after the fact, Garner said.
