Elijah Watson of Eastern Alamance won the 132-pound division and teammate Brandon Mandizha claimed the 150 title in the Buccaneers Cup wrestling tournament Saturday at Bartlett Yancey.
Watson recorded four pins, including one in 1:53 against William Coykendall of Jordan-Matthews in the final.
Mandizha went 5-0, with four pins. He stuck Dan River’s Ryland Perkinson in 1:42 of the final.
Jayden Batten at 120 and Alfonzo Gonzalez at heavyweight were runners-up for the Eagles.
Eastern’s Brayan Acosta (132 pounds), Julian Jones (175), and Christopher Schild (190) placed third, and teammate Jacob Byrd was fourth at 138.
Williams had Gavin McMahan as the 190 champion, with two pins and a technical fall before winning against Jordan-Matthews’ Jakari Blue by disqualification.
Angler Laxson of Williams was the 175 runner-up, falling to Walkertown’s Joram Gnamien-Brou by 9-2 in the final.
Zyyihr Wiley of Cummings was second at 215 with six pins and a loss by pin in 2:40 to Bartlett Yancey’s Aric Lipscomb. Cummings’ Brandon Rodirguez (285) placed third.
Greensboro Smith was the team champion among 11 schools, collecting 135 points to 129½ for runner-up Bartlett Yancey and 125½ for third-place Eastern.
Coach T Memorial Classic
Southern Alamance’s wrestling team had three runners-up Saturday at Durham Riverside.
Landen Curtis (132), Jace Rich (165), and Luke White (285) placed second.
Curtis won twice by pin and also by a decision before falling 11-5 to Asheboro’s Oscar Zelaya in the title bout.
Rich won twice by second-period technical falls before losing 10-1 to Ryan Thompson of Cardinal Gibbons.
White had two first-period pins and a second-period technical fall before dropping a 4-1 decision to North Davidson’s Zack Knott.
Southeast Alamance 215-pounder Maleek Booker placed third with a 3-1 record. Southeast’s Judah Robinson (106) went 3-2 and didn’t place.
Southern placed third with 109½ points among 24 teams. Cardinal Gibbons was the champion with 229½ and Lumberton was second with 209½. Southeast was in 11th with 68½.
Mid-Carolina Conference Tournament
The date for this eight-school competition has been moved up one day because of concerns about potential weekend weather. It will begin at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Southeast Alamance.
