Reggie Robertson of Burlington was one of 30 new inductees into the George Whitfield Hall of Fame earlier this month in Goldsboro.
Robertson has longtime contributions to sports, particularly baseball, in Alamance County. He’s beginning his second year as an assistant baseball coach at Southeast Alamance.
Robertson was long associated with American Legion baseball and Burlington-Graham Post 63. He was a fixture on high school baseball staffs at Williams before going to Orange in a similar role for six seasons.
Whitfield, a longtime coach of high school and American Legion baseball teams, holds a ceremony each January to recognize various people with sports connections as his Hall of Fame honorees. Whitfield has honored 719 people through the years. The event was held at Wayne Community College.
Ex-Cummings star set for state honors
Former Cummings standout Isaiah Moore will be inducted into the North Carolina High School Track and Field and Cross Country Hall of Fame next week.
Combined between indoor and outdoor seasons, Moore was a six-time Most Outstanding Performer in state meets for track and field from 2012-14. He became a state champion 13 times as a hurdler and jumper.
Moore went on to earn All-Southeastern Conference recognition four times for South Carolina. He received All-American honors three times.
Moore will be one of 11 individuals and one relay team inducted January 31 at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem.
Elon’s induction ceremony nears
Induction for the next class of the Elon Sports Hall of Fame is scheduled for 11 a.m. January 31 at Alumni Gym on campus. Burlington resident Mike Kennedy, the longtime baseball coach and former catcher for the team, is among the inductees. The others are Chase Austin (baseball, 2007-09), Caitlin Beeler (women’s cross country, track and field, 2006-10), Nicole Dennion (women’s soccer, 2012-13), Clint Irwin (men’s soccer, 2007-10), and Jordan Johnston (women’s tennis, 2010-14). The ceremony is free and open to the public.
