Late night drivers along I-85/40 in both directions may experience delays this week (March 2 – 6) as contractors with the N.C. Department of Transportation will be working on the bridge overpass at Exit 152, Trollingwood-Hawfields Road.
The widening of the overpass is a part of the road improvements associated with the forthcoming Buc-ee’s planned for the southeast corner of that intersection. Construction crews will be setting beams for the new bridge on Trollingwood Hawfields Road over I-40/I-85.
The schedule for closure begins at 8:00 p.m., when one lane will be closed; at 10:00 p.m., that expands to two lanes. And at midnight, the closure will be all lanes, with a detour in place.
The detour will consist of getting off at the exit (in either direction) and then proceeding straight across Trollingwood-Hawfields Road and return to the intersection.
According to NCDOT, all lanes will reopen by 6:00 a.m. each morning.
NCDOT urges driver to allow extra time for their commute and use caution when traveling in the work zone.
