Western Alamance avenged a loss by beating Eastern Alamance 3-0 in last week’s Mid-Carolina Conference baseball rematch.
Western starting pitcher Jorge Banda worked 6 1/3 innings and Bryce Renner notched the final two outs.
Conner Horner threw four shutout innings for Eastern before John Wittig took over on the mound.
At the plate, Banda’s bases-loaded walk provided Western’s second run in a two-run fifth inning. Dawson Boysel’s single drove in Frederick Harrelson Jr., who reached on a double, for the last run in the sixth.
The teams share first place with 4-2 league records.
- Western Alamance went 2-1 across three games in the ZooKeepers Classic this week at McCrary Park in Asheboro.
Wake County Home School defeated Western 9-1 on Monday. Dawson Boysel doubled and scored the Warriors’ run on Weston Greene’s single.
The Warriors were in action again later Monday, throttling Winston-Salem Christian 13-0 in five innings behind pitching from Gavin Davis and Jack May. Boysel, Davis and Hayden Wheeler rapped run-scoring doubles and Mason Buzzard, Banda and Greene all knocked in runs with singles.
On Tuesday, Western posted a 3-2 victory against Spring Valley (of Huntington, West Virginia) as Harrelson had a double and scored two runs.
- Eastern Alamance has been playing in the Wilmington Classic this week. The Eagles lost 4-1 to Wilmington Ashley on Monday before Tuesday’s 5-4 victory in nine innings against North Brunswick.
- Southeast Alamance, using pitching from Paxton Piccini and Tyler Jackson, beat host Williams 12-5 last Thursday to win a Mid-Carolina Conference matchup with the Bulldogs for the second time during the week. Ex-Southeast player Bubba Sims took the pitching loss. Cooper Marks of Williams had a double and triple and scored two runs.
- Southeast Alamance has been playing this week in the ZooKeepers Classic.
The Stallions fell 1-0 to Spring Valley, which received a three-hitter from Jake Vanarsdale, on Monday. Ayden Brown (5 2/3 innings) and Jackson pitched for Southeast, which allowed a fourth-inning run.
Southeast lost 2-1 to Wake County Home School on Tuesday, allowing two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning on Austin Clark’s single. Aidan Amick handled the bulk of Southeast’s pitching.
- Williams won 6-4 at Northern Durham on Monday.
- Camden Whittemore homered when Southern Alamance won 3-2 at Asheboro last week. Jackson Vaughn, Anthony DeMarco, and Eli Gilley all had two hits, with Vaughn and Gilley doubling.
This week, Southern has been taking part in the Wilmington Classic. The Patriots lost 7-4 to Union Pines on Monday.
- Burlington Christian Academy was busy at the end of last week with games at First National Bank Field (home of the Greensboro Grasshoppers) and Truist Point (home of the High Point Rockers), beginning with Thursday’s 4-3 loss to Southeast Guilford. BCA’s Cooper Kelly struck out 10 batters in four innings and teammate Lofton Gonzalez drove in two runs, but winning pitcher Nathan Jarrett hit a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning for Southeast Guilford.
The Royals responded to defeat Greensboro Dudley 24-4 on Friday, with Kelly collecting four runs batted in and Gonzalez knocking in three runs to support winning pitcher Matty Collie.
Patrick Triolo struck out nine and walked four in five innings of one-hit pitching as BCA blanked Lee County 10-0 on Saturday. Anthony Valdez doubled twice and drove in three runs among his three hits and Cohen Payne scored three runs.
- Brayden DeAlto hit two solo home runs, while Seth McKinney and Ethan Saunders combined on a three-hitter as Clover Garden defeated visiting Eastern Randolph 2-1 last week.
Clover Garden lost 10-0 in five innings at Bartlett Yancey last Thursday. The Grizzlies fell 8-3 at North Carolina Leadership Academy on Tuesday.
