Cotton claims national title in triple jump

D’Anna Cotton of Burlington won the women’s triple jump during USA Track and Field’s under-20 national championship last week in Eugene, Oregon.

Cotton, a graduate of Cummings earlier this month and a state champion in the event, posted a mark of 43 feet, 1 inch at Hayward Field on the University of Oregon campus.

The runner-up was Shi’eana Hall of the University of Houston at 42-4¾ and third place went to Stanford’s Samantha Ennin at 41-10½.

Cotton had the seventh-place distance in the long jump at 19-6.

Cotton will compete collegiately for the University of South Carolina.
