A man from Burlington has been charged with numerous sex crimes after law enforcement officials found that his smartphone contained clandestine footage of a girl using the bathroom.
These illicit materials apparently turned up after members of Burlington’s police force arrested Elvis Cruz of 1417 Vaughn Road for domestic assault on Monday, July 6.

Four days later, the city’s police department reportedly brought the office of Alamance County’s sheriff in to the case.
On Saturday, the sheriff’s office filed a felony-level charge of secret peeping against the 28-year-old white male. This charge apparently pertains to images of a juvenile that had been captured on Cruz’ iPhone in June of 2025.
This initial count was followed by several more felony charges on Monday. According to court records, these additional violations include felony child abuse, indecent liberties with a child, a statutory sex offense with a child, and the first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.
Court records indicate that Cruz is currently being held without bond.
