All Mebane railroad crossings to close to vehicles starting Monday

Categories:

Eight railroad crossings in the city of Mebane will close to all vehicle traffic starting at 6:00 Monday, August 24, for rail replacement work along the North Carolina Railroad corridor.

The affected railroad crossings in Mebane: Third Street; Fourth Street; Fifth Street; Buckhorn Road; Mattress Factory Road; Gibson Road; Moore Road; and Redman Road.

Norfolk Southern currently anticipates completing work at the Mebane railroad crossings by Thursday, August 27.

Norfolk Southern will perform the rail replacement work Monday through Thursday beginning at the Redman Road crossing.  From there, crews will conduct rolling closures along 34 miles of the rail corridor between Mebane and Greensboro, with the remaining work expected to continue through September.

Once construction work is complete, the asphalt may still be curing at certain crossings, potentially requiring a crossing to remain closed for safety, even if work crews are no longer active at the site.  These closures are expected to remain in place for approximately two to five days.

During the closures, no vehicle traffic will be permitted through the crossings.

Drivers should follow posted detour signs and allow extra travel time.

Emergency services, school transportation officials, and other transportation agencies have been notified of the planned closures.

The schedule is subject to change based on construction progress, weather, and rail operations.

Updates will be shared through the City of Mebane’s website and the North Carolina Railroad Company’s project website at ncrr.com/cappfi-new-rail/.
