Zion Walker remembered going to a variety of youth basketball camps when he was growing up.
He made sure a few dozen area youth could experience something like that Saturday.
The Burlington School boys’ basketball standout conducted a free youth camp.
“When I was a little kid, I used to come to these kinds of things,” Walker said of his time as a youth. “I just wanted to give back.”
Walker, a 2024 TBS graduate, held the event at the new auxiliary gym at Burlington Christian Academy, which was a rival school while he was at TBS. It took place just a couple of days before college classes resume at Radford, where Walker plays on the basketball team.
“You like to see something like this,” said George Marshall, TBS boys’ basketball coach and athletics director. He said it’s the first local camp that he’s aware that was organized in the name of a TBS alum.

Following time at Turrentine Middle School, Walker played for four years at TBS and was part of three state championships with the Spartans. He has spent time this summer in his hometown and at Radford, where he attended classes for a summer session.
While staying in Burlington, he played in a Greensboro summer league to help prepare for the next season.
Among those assisting with Saturday’s camp were several of Walker’s former TBS teammates who also went on to play in college.
