City schedules hearing for anonymous company that’s planning a $62.5 million investment at the southern edge of Burlington’s municipal limits
A Mebane-based manufacturer has decided to consolidate many of its operations in Burlington thanks, in part, to $50,000 in grants that it has received from Burlington’s municipal government.
According to the city of Burlington, PLI Fabrication has been awarded $50,000 in “priority corridor” grants to spruce up a building along I-85/40 to accommodate a workforce of about 70 people.
A specialist in the production of custom-made dye-cutting tools and foam-based materials used in the automotive industry, PLI reportedly intends to centralize operations at three different sites at this facility. To this end. the company plans to invest $500,000 into the proposed transformation of this 140,000-square-foot building – whose location at 2611 LaVista Drive lies within Burlington’s Maple Avenue corridor.
The city’s priority corridor program will help to defray the cost of these upgrades with $30,000 for façade improvements and another $20,000 for interior upfits.
The full ‘Monty’
This announcement about PLI’s plans comes in the midst of an even bigger corporate recruitment gambit on the part of Burlington’s municipal leaders.
Dubbed Project Monty, this venture involves an anonymous company that’s considering investing some $62.5 million into a facility at the southern edge of Burlington’s municipal limits.
According to Burlington’s city manager Bob Patterson, the city has proposed to install $1.2 million in water and sewer lines to serve this project if it is constructed in Burlington. He added that the resulting facility would employ at least 300 people by 2032 with an average annual salary of $58,181.
Burlington’s city council has scheduled a public hearing on this mystery suitor’s proposed largesse for the evening of October 20.
