Funds are being raised through GoFundMe.com. According to information on the GoFundMe summary, Lloyd is expected to be in an inpatient rehabilitation facility for the next phase of recovery.

Lloyd founded School of Hard Knocks, a youth wrestling club in the Triad. That club operates year-round out of Greensboro and its members have secured numerous state championships through the years.

Lloyd, then at Southern, won the 1974 state championship at 172 pounds under coach Wally Burke. He has had a decades-long career as a coach.

He’s a member of Southern Alamance Athletics Hall of Fame, inducted in 2011.

Lloyd coached as an assistant at Southern and later at High Point Andrews, where he spent 20-plus years. He’s also a member of the High Point Andrews Athletics Hall of Fame.

Lloyd was recognized in 2014 by the North Carolina chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame for “lifetime service to wrestling.”
