A death occurred Wednesday night when a person jumped off the overpass at exit 150 (Jimmie Kerr Road) in Graham, which is the exit where Alamance Community College is located. The bridge is named for Jim Covington, the late owner and operator of Jim’s Hot Dogs in Graham.
The suicide occurred a few minutes before 7:00 p.m., and westbound interstate traffic was closed for several hours, according to the Graham Police Department.
Graham police are not yet identifying the deceased, who died from injuries sustained in the incident, until notifications can be made to next of kin.
