ACC Foundation president, new board members begin duties

James “Ed” Hooks, Mayor of the City of Mebane, became president of the Alamance Community College Foundation Board of Directors effective January 1. Serving a two-year term, he succeeds Charles Canaday.

A member of the ACC Foundation Board of Directors since 2010, Hooks has served as Chair of the Resource Development Committee, Vice President on the Executive Committee, and is now serving on the Grants Committee and as President. Hooks served on the Mebane City Council and as Mayor Pro Tem before his election as Mayor in 2020. He retired from Gregory Poole Equipment Company after 44 years.

• C. Douglas Green, Esquire is a partner at the law firm, Smith Giles, LLC. An Alamance County native, Green attended Duke University on a football scholarship and earned a degree in economics. He later earned an MBA from Elon University and a J.D. degree from NC Central University School of Law. After practicing law in Florida for 16 years, he served as an Alamance County Assistant District Attorney for three years before joining Smith Giles LLC as a partner. He is a member of the North Carolina Bar, Alamance County Bar and a member of the U.S. District Court, Middle District of North Carolina.

Doug is a Board member of the Alamance County Community Service Agency and an active participant in the Dream Center, affiliated with City Gate Church of Burlington. Green is the father of two teenagers.

• Jamie Killorin, EdD., is Director of Gift Planning for Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia and is working remotely. A licensed, certified public accountant and certified financial planner, Killorin has more than twenty years of tax, financial advisory, and wealth management experience. She earned her doctorate in 2016 from The George Washington University in Human and Organizational Learning.

She presents seminars on financial planning, charitable giving, and professional ethics. Prior to returning to Burlington recently, Killorin lived in the city from 2007-2019. Her husband Jim teaches mathematics at Cummings High School. The couple’s two daughters attended Elon University.

The Executive Committee of the ACC Foundation Board of Directors for 2022 includes, serving two-year terms: Ed Hooks, President; Ami Hill, Vice President; Charles Canaday, Immediate Past President; Charlie R. Harris, Treasurer; Brenda Hampton, Secretary; Jackie Cole – Grants Committee; Jack Overacre – Investment Committee; David Moore – Planned Giving Committee; and Brendle Leggett – Resource Development Committee.
