Alamance Community College’s trustees voted 9-0 Monday night to extend the employment contract for ACC president Dr. Ken Ingle by three years, through June 30, 2028.
The trustees convened an hourlong closed session near the conclusion of their latest meeting to discuss the renewal and extension of Ingle’s contract, which will be subject to approval by the State Board of Community College, according to the trustees’ chairman, Julie Scott Emmons.
The trustees had also entered into closed session during their meeting on February 13 to discuss the president’s annual job performance evaluation.
In keeping with the North Carolina Community College System’s (NCCCS) code, the state-funded portion of Ingle’s salary, like those of all 58 N.C. community college presidents, is based on the number of full-time equivalent students enrolled at ACC.
Voting to extend Ingle’s contract through June 30, 2028 were: Emmons; vice chairman Ken Walker; and trustees Jim Butler; Steve Carter; Dr. Roslyn Crisp; Tony Foriest; Glidewell; Bill Gomory; and Sylvia Munoz.
Trustee Blake Williams had been present during the open portion of Monday night’s meeting but exited shortly after the closed session began.
ACC’s newest trustee, Tammy Karnes, recently appointed by Alamance County’s commissioners to complete the remaining term of former trustee Mark Gordon, was absent Monday night due to illness, Ingle had said earlier during the evening.
One ACC trustee’s seat, previously held by Dr. Charles Scott, remains vacant.
The trustees also voted 9-0 upon reconvening in open session to award Ingle a $10,000 raise, contingent upon the availability of state and county funding and approval by the State Board of Community Colleges. His new salary would be $236,620 per year, starting July 1.
Ingle took over as ACC’s president in Febraury 2024. He had previously served as the chief officer of information services at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College where he spearheaded strategic planning, institutional effectiveness, and advanced information technology initiatives. Ingle holds a bachelor’s degree at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte; master’s degree from Bellevue University; and a doctorate in Community College Leadership from North Carolina State University.
The additional three-year term of Ingle’s employment contract with ACC is scheduled to take effect July 1, 2025.
