Alamance Christian School’s boys’ golf team won its fourth consecutive state championship this spring.
Garrett Brown shot a 5-over-par 77 to lead the Warriors, who posted a 322 team score at Grandover Resort’s East Course in Greensboro in the North Carolina Christian School Association’s Class 2-A state tournament. It was a nine-stroke winning margin on Wilmington Christian.
Brown was third individually, followed by ACS teammates Holden Yakola and Josh Cline in fourth place with 78s. Tristan Bellman tied for 10th with 89 and Owen Anderson shared 14th place with 90.
Brown, Yakola, and Bellman are seniors (and also were members of the ACS state championship in boys’ soccer in the fall), while Cline is a sophomore and Anderson is a freshman.
“Our depth really paid off,” ACS coach Scott Yakola said. “Happy for Garrett and Tristan, who shot their best rounds ever at Grandover, and Josh is just starting to show how good he can be.”
It’s the golf program’s 12th state championship. The golf team is the first in any sport at ACS to win four straight state titles.
“So proud of the boys for keeping their focus all season and pushing each other to collectively set new records for ACS golf,” Coach Yakola said. “Any coach will tell you, winning one championship is hard enough; winning four in a row is unheard of.”
ACS was undefeated during NCCSA play and won the Central District championship. The team set several school records, including an 18-hole scoring average of 308 (with a 296 best score). The Warriors also recorded five nine-hole rounds under 150.
