It’s Week 2 for area high school football teams.
Friday’s non-conference matchups include a variety of games, in several cases reuniting former league rivals. Games begin at 7:00 p.m. (except for Williams at Eastern Guilford at 7:30 p.m.).
Williams at Eastern Guilford
This is the only game of the week involving an Alamance County team with both clubs owning 1-0 records.
These teams have split their last four meetings, with Williams winning 34-0 at home last year.
Beginning in 2009, they’ve met every season except for the fall of 2021 when a scheduled meeting was cancelled because of COVID-related concerns at Eastern Guilford.
Eastern Alamance at Northeast Guilford
These teams were conference rivals from 2013 through spring 2021, with Eastern winning seven of eight regular-season meetings plus a playoff encounter.
Northeast Guilford will be in its home debut after demolishing Eden Morehead 46-0. The Rams are under first-year coach Antonio Hall, an alum of the school. Hall was hired after directing high-powered Greensboro Dudley as its offensive coordinator.

Western Alamance at Southwest Guilford
Southwest Guilford lost by 32-16 at home to Rockingham County last week. The Cowboys haven’t faced an Alamance County team since defeating Southern Alamance in 2016.
This will be Western’s fifth different Guilford County opponent in a six-season stretch.
Southeast Alamance at Seaforth
These teams were in the same conference the past two years but now meet in a non-league game. Southeast won both previous meetings.
Southeast is 20-6 in the first 26 games in school history.
Seaforth lost 27-20 at Chapel Hill last week. The Hawks began playing varsity football one year before Southeast and hold a 9-22 record.
Cummings at Thomasville
Cummings had gone 55 games since it was a shutout victim until it was blanked by Williams in the opener at home last week.
Thomasville fell by 18-10 to host High Point Andrews, which played its first game under former Southeast Alamance defensive coordinator Mook Reynolds.
Earlier this century, these programs were state powers. Cummings won Class 2-A state titles in 2002 and 2006 and was a runner-up in 2001 and 2003. Thomasville won championships in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2008 in Class 1-AA.
Graham at Cedar Ridge
These teams last met in 2012, when Graham won its third straight in the series.
Cedar Ridge opened this season with a 44-0 loss at East Chapel Hill, which had a stellar debut under former Eastern Alamance assistant coach Ricky Morton.
Patrick Henry (Virginia) at Southern Alamance
Both teams have Patriots as nicknames and they had 7-4 records last year. Patrick Henry is located in Roanoke.
Patrick Henry won 34-17 in its opener against William Byrd.
This is the only out-of-state game on either team’s schedule this year.
