Dear Burlington Print Subscriber:
This week’s edition of The Alamance News was published on Thursday, January 11, 2023 and entered into the Graham post office, as usual, early Thursday afternoon.
On Friday, we learned from the U.S. Postal Service that the delivery truck that is supposed to take our papers from the Graham post office to the Burlington post office on Thursday afternoon did not stop in Burlington to drop off the papers, but rather continued on to the regional distribution center in Greensboro.
While we were assured by the post office that every attempt would be made to retrieve the newspapers from Greensboro for Saturday delivery in Burlington, it appears that delivery did not happen either.
Thus, no one in Burlington – neither in the city nor on rural routes – has received this week’s edition by mail delivery.
Inasmuch as Monday is a holiday, the earliest it will delivered is Tuesday, January 16.
To the best of our knowledge, other areas of the county have not experienced any delay in delivery, only Burlington (all zip codes, 27215, 27216, & 27217).
To be candid, our experience in the past – when a previous driver skipped dropping off papers in Burlington and took them to the huge Greensboro distribution center where they could not be located for several days – is that we are not now optimistic about any timeframe provided by the post office.
We apologize for their poor service, but we are totally at their mercy once our papers are entered into the postal system, as they were, on time, on Thursday.
As an interim measure, for those with online ability, we have opened the website, alamancenews.com, to all, so that you can read various individual stories from this week’s edition without charge.
We’re also making available access to the e-Edition at alamancenews.us – which is a facsimile copy of the print edition.
Please feel free to share this information with print subscribers who may not have a computer or access to this online information.
Thank you for your understanding and patience, and your enthusiasm to read this week’s paper,
Tom Boney, Jr.
