Playoff games for Alamance Christian boys and girls delayed

The Burlington School’s bid for a fourth state championship in five years in boys’ basketball didn’t pan out Friday night.
Caldwell Academy of Greensboro spoiled the occasion for the Spartans, winning 73-51 in the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association’s Class 2-A final at Providence Day School in Charlotte.
The outcome also snapped a string of 11 consecutive seasons with at least 20 victories for TBS (19-12).
Caldwell Academy (26-9) claimed its first state championship, boosted by 20 points apiece from Ayden Johnson and Neal Swindell. Cole Cloer, a transfer from Orange, had 12 points.
Kaden Hammond’s 23 points led TBS. Jamyn Coleman drained three first-half 3-pointers and Cam Flippen also ended up with nine points.
Caldwell led 35-26 at halftime and the margin was at 12 points going to the fourth quarter.
Caldwell Academy had eliminated Burlington Christian Academy in the quarterfinals.
It was the second time that Caldwell Academy defeated the Spartans this season, capturing a 73-60 decision January 24 at TBS.
Games delayed for Alamance Christian teams
The North Carolina Christian School Association’s state tournament was pushed back one week, delaying bids from Alamance Christian School teams in their quests for state championships.
The Warriors qualified for quarterfinals in boys’ and girls’ brackets in Class 2-A.
Because of this week’s wintry weather, the three days of competition were moved to this next week, beginning Thursday.
The ACS girls (10-7) meet Wilmington Christian (17-7) at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Vandalia Christian in Greensboro.
The ACS boys (20-3) face Wilmington Christian (18-10) at 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Triad Christian in Kernersville.
Semifinals for girls and boys are Friday at Triad Christian, while next Saturday’s finals are set for Calvary Christian in King.
