Mebane police report that they were unsuccessful in resuscitating an unresponsive 12-month-old found in an employee’s car at the Armacell plant, 7412 Oakwood Street Extension, Mebane.
Police responded earlier today at about 12:23 p.m. based on a reported cardiac arrest. Upon arrival, CPR was administered to an unresponsive 12-month-old child.
According to the preliminary police investigation, the father of the young child is employed at this business and had left the child in the vehicle.
Temperatures in the area have been in the upper 80’s and low 90’s throughout much of the day.
Investigators have not determined how long the child was in the vehicle, according to Mebane’s assistant police chief Thomas Allen Byrd.
Mebane police advise that the identity of the child and father will not be released at this time, and no charges have been filed at this time.
Investigators will confer with the Orange County District Attorney’s Office – Orange County inasmuch as the Armacell plant is on the Orange County side of the city.
According to the Mebane police department, the investigation is ongoing.
