A suspected serial shoplifter is behind bars this week after racking up charges of larceny and similar offenses in Burlington and several other communities.
According to Burlington’s police department, Shanna Monica Gandy was taken into custody on Saturday after the agency’s intelligence unit received word that she had been spotted at a TJ Maxx along University Drive.
The city’s police officers went on to serve the 43-year-old black female of 300 Avalon Road in Greensboro with a number of outstanding arrest warrants for charges that hark back to August of 2024. These pending charges include one count of felony larceny, six counts of misdemeanor larceny, and one count for the misdemeanor possession of stolen goods.
In addition, evidence found upon Gandy’s arrest has resulted in two felony charges for the possession of stolen goods, another felony for cocaine possession, and a misdemeanor offense for the possession of drug paraphernalia. Gandy also faces a further felony for allegedly using her sister’s birthdate and name to avoid the authorities who had been pursuing her.
In addition to Burlington’s police department, four other law enforcement agencies were able to serve Gandy with their own outstanding arrest warrants when she was arrested on Saturday.
These agencies include Asheboro’s police department, which had originally charged Gandy with misdemeanor counts of larceny and the possession of stolen property in October of 2025. In April, police in Kernersville lodged the same two misdemeanor charges against Gandy, while High Point’s police department charged her with two counts of misdemeanor larceny during the course of that month. In the meantime, police in Greensboro have served Gandy with felony-level counts of larceny and possession of stolen property plus charges of misdemeanor larceny that date back to the fall of 2024.
Court records indicate that a clerk in Alamance County placed Gandy under a $10,000 bond since her arrest.
