Burlington resident under $2 million bond after arrest for 11 felonies, including child rape

A man from Burlington faces multiple charges of child abuse and sexual assault following a week-long investigation by the office of Alamance County’s sheriff.

Gary Donnell Cotton ultimately turned himself in to the authorities on Monday after the sheriff’s office charged him with 11 felonies and three misdemeanors based on the results of its inquiry, which began on February 26, when its special victims unit relieved a report about the alleged sexual assault of a juvenile.

According to the sheriff’s office, Cotton currently faces three felony counts of statutory rape, three felony counts of sex offense with a child, one felony count of child abuse through prostitution, and four felony counts of indecent liberties. The 42-year-old black male of 425 Lincoln Street in Burlington is also accused of three misdemeanors for allegedly contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.
