The Clover Garden Grizzlies girls’ basketball team pulled a stunning upset against Chatham Charter with a 51-49 victory in the Central Tar Heel 1-A Conference Tournament final February 23.
Chatham Charter, a team that had two victories against Clover Garden by more than 20 points in the regular season, failed to complete a sweep.
Clover Garden had already avenged two regular-season losses to Triangle Math and Science in the semifinals to reach the final.
Sophomore guard Hanna Tickle solidified her place in the team’s history by scoring 12 points, including the game-winning shot in the championship game, which was played at River Mill.
Clover Garden freshman guard Emory Webster emerged as a standout player in the championship game. Webster led the scoring with 17 points, including five 3-pointers.
