Terrance Alford, who was interim coach for the Cummings football team this year, said it’s a matter of waiting to see what’s next.
The Alamance-Burlington School System made a job posting for the Cummings coaching position last week. Because they were in merely “interim” roles during the past season, all Cummings coaches had to reapply for the positions.
“We are playing the waiting game,” Alford said, noting that all the members of the coaching staff are going through the process to be hired officially.
Alford, a former Cummings player, was tapped in June to fill the coaching role after David Grimm was fired. Alford had been an assistant coach.
Cummings went 3-8 this season with a first-round loss in the Class 4-A state playoffs. The Cavaliers were 1-6 in the Mid-Carolina Conference.
There are other openings for football coaches in the region. Western Alamance’s Jeff Snuffer is retiring so that position became open in November. Also, Cedar Ridge coach Brent Bailey resigned meaning there’s a vacancy at that Hillsborough school.
Other coaching vacancies. . .
Eastern Alamance has an opening for a boys’ lacrosse coach. As of mid-December, there were no applicants for that position.
- Melissa Troy has left the volleyball coaching position at Southeast Alamance after one season. She’s the wife of Elon University volleyball coach Matt Troy, who just completed his first season.
- Graham has listed openings for a boys’ soccer coach and a girls’ soccer coach.
