Greensboro College baseball shortstop Evan Sykes out of Southern Alamance received Division III All-American recognition by American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings and D3baseball.com
As a senior, Sykes batted .412 with 12 home runs, 64 runs scored, and tied the single-season program record with 23 doubles, adding to his record-setting career.
Sykes leaves the Pride as the career school record holder in home runs (33), runs batted in (159), runs scored (191), hits (208), doubles (61), and games played (161).
Greensboro’s season ended May 3 in the USA South Conference Tour-nament’s opening weekend in Greensboro. Sykes hit a three-run homer in the 5-3 loss to William Peace.
The regular-season champion Pride ended with a 26-17 record. Sykes was named to the All-USA South first team.
George has highlights for Guilford
Guilford College’s Ethan George, formerly of Williams, batted .255 with four home runs and seven doubles in 32 games.
George, a junior infielder, homered twice in the second game of a late-season doubleheader against Eastern Mennonite. Guilford won that game, 16-6.
Former Western Alamance player Aidan McCandless batted .267 in 17 games for the Quakers.
Guilford finished with a 19-20 record under coach Zach Booker, a Western Alamance graduate and former Elon University player.
McGinnis contributes for UNC Asheville
Eastern Alamance alum Coleman McGinnis started in 39 games as a UNC Asheville catcher this year.
McGinnis batted .212 for the Bulldogs (21-34), hitting a grand slam in a 5-3 victory at USC Upstate.
Jones, Holland join Sock Puppets
Two former area high school players are with the Burlington Sock Puppets of the Appalachian League, a summer collegiate circuit.
Tucker Holland, a former The Burlington School pitcher, played this year for UNC Greensboro in his third college stop. He was 0-1 with a 14.85 earned run average in five games covering 6 2/3 innings.
Tate Jones, who pitched for Williams, was a transfer at New Jersey Institute of Technology but didn’t appear in any 2026 games.
Following a season-opening road trip, the Sock Puppets play their home opener Monday night vs. the Pulaski River Turtles.
