Two area players finished their seasons on Radford’s men’s basketball team, which posted a 20-13 record.
Graham graduate T.J. NeSmith wrapped up his redshirt senior season, appearing in 31 games with 10 starters. NeSmith had 5.2 points and 3.1 rebounds per game.
NeSmith spent two seasons with the Highlanders after stops with Cape Fear Community College and Division II Lenoir-Rhyne.
Freshman Zion Walker out of The Burlington School played in 27 games, averaging 5.9 points. He missed games late in the season with an injury.
Radford recently hired Zach Chu as its new coach after Darris Nichols left to be the next coach at LaSalle. Chu had been on the staff at Southern Methodist.
Scott makes impact at Guilford
Williams alum Briahna Scott averaged 7.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per game as a sophomore for Guilford College’s women’s basketball team.
Scott, who was third among the Quakers in scoring, started in 25 games.
Guilford finished with a 15-11 record.
Cousin’s season in new job
Graham graduate Justin Cousin had his first season as an assistant coach for the men’s team at Wabash Valley College, a junior college in Mount Carmel, Illinois. The team finished with a 15-16 record.
Cousin is a former Radford player who had been on support staffs at Radford and, prior to this season, for two seasons at Georgia.
Nestor’s service scheduled
A service in memory of former Elon men’s basketball coach Ernie Nestor will take place next week. A “reunion gathering” to celebrate Nestor’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. April 10 at Joel Coliseum in Winston-Salem.
Nestor, who was long associated with Wake Forest’s basketball program as an assistant coach and advisor, died January 26 at age 78. He coached Elon for six seasons, ending in March 2009.
