Commissioner chairman John Paisley recovering at home from fall

Alamance County commissioner chairman John Paisley is recovering at home after suffering a fall last Thursday, in which he sustained two broken ribs.

The commissioners’ chairman was taken last Thursday to Duke Hospital and released on Sunday, Paisley confirmed in a brief phone interview with The Alamance News.

“I tripped on some steps and wound up breaking two ribs, so I’m just basically getting over that,” he told the newspaper Wednesday evening. His doctors estimate that it full recovery will take up to six weeks, Paisley said.

“I was having a problem with the left arm prior to that,” the commissioners’ chairman said, telling the newspaper that he’d fractured two ribs on his right side when he fell.

Paisley said he’s convalescing in the comfort of his home in Burlington and feeling pretty well, all things considered. “I’m taking it easy and conducting, this week, business from home. I had hoped I would attend the [commissioners] meeting this past Monday in person, but it’s such a hassle right now, with the ribs and discomfort.”

Paisley revealed Wednesday evening that he had, in fact, watched the commissioners’ latest meeting via the online teleconferencing platform, Zoom. “I had set the agenda the previous week and had been through all the materials earlier,” he said. “I knew the agenda was very light.”

Assistant county manager Bruce Walker “hooked me up,” Paisley elaborated. “I’ve got the county iPad, so it was easy. Since Covid restrictions were curtailed, I couldn’t vote. I could’ve asked questions, but I had pretty much asked questions of the other commissioners before the meeting,” he said, noting that he hadn’t had a chance to contact commissioner Pam Thompson prior to the meeting Monday night.

Paisley confirmed for the newspaper that he hopes to attend the commissioners’ next meeting on August 7 in person.
