The Cone Health hospital chain is about to welcome a new member to its family of healthcare facilities – namely an OB/GYN clinic that’s expected to open in Burlington later this year.
The Greensboro-based chain is presently renovating a building at 2921 Crouse Lane to house this new operation, which will consolidate some of Cone’s current obstetrics and gynecology services in the western part of Alamance County.
Doug Allred, a spokesman for Cone Health, said the new clinic will serve as the new digs for a maternal/fetal care unit at Cone-owned Alamance Regional Medical Center as well as another, established OB/GYN practice at 1091 Kirkpatrick Road that was known as the Westside Clinic before its acquisition by Cone.
“We hope to open the clinic in December,” Allred added in an interview Tuesday, “and it will be called ‘Cone Health Alamance OB/GYN in Burlington.’”
According to county land records, Cone bought the Crouse Lane property in the fall of 2024 for a sum of just under $2.7 million. Along with about 1.16 acres of grounds, this purchase came with a 14,355 square-foot building – whose dimensions amount to a roughly 50 percent increase in floor area over the existing clinic at 1091 Kirkpatrick Road.
In advance of the new clinic’s debut in December, Cone has embarked on the equivalent of repainting the nursery at the Crouse Lane location. According to Burlington’s inspections department, a permit was issued on June 23 for this $1.6 million project, which consists of “interior renovation and [an] exterior canopy replacement to transform an existing clinic into a new OB/GYN clinic.”
Allred said that these upgrades will allow the new clinic to accommodate five physicians and eight to ten “advanced practice providers” by the time that it opens its doors. He added that, with any luck, this newly-refurbished facility will also breathe new life into Burlington’s obstetrics and gynecology services.
“There is a national shortage of OB/GYNs right now,” he went on to explain, “and the hope is this will help us out with recruitment.”
