Renovations continue inside a former bank branch that the county has purchased at 1128 South Main Street in Graham to provide a new, more commodious home for the local elections office.
At this point, work on this building’s exterior has more or less come to a halt as contractors await a shipment of custom-made bricks for the area where the bank’s drive-thru lanes were previously located. Dawn Hurdle, the county’s elections director, concedes that the arrival of these bricks will ultimately determine when she and her staff can move into the building.
“We’re hoping it will be by the end of August,” she added in an interview Wednesday.
“But we probably won’t have an open house until December, because once we move in, we’ll have the [Burlington] primary [on October 10] and then the [general] election.”
