Haw River is set to get a new eatery after the town council this week approved a rezoning request from a couple planning to renovate one of the area’s historic homes.
Located at 335 Roxboro Street, the stately Victorian, built in 1915, is already getting exterior improvements by owners Tara and Nathanael Ariel, who live in Burlington. In their application to town staff, the Ariels proposed a combined bakery, coffee shop, and ice cream parlor which may also have a drive-through pending NCDOT approval. Also in the document are the business’ proposed hours, 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
The couple also stated that they plan to preserve the historic features of the home and told councilmembers during their meeting Monday that they plan to paint the exterior in a traditional Victorian palette.
The Ariels’ plans received a hearty approval from both the town council and the planning board, the latter of which unanimously advised the council to approve the rezoning last week.
