Deputies raid suspected crack house in Burlington, arrest 72-year-old woman

A 72-year-old woman has been arrested on multiple drug charges after a raid on her home in Burlington allegedly unearthed a stash of crack cocaine.

According to the office of Alamance County’s sheriff, Mary Kathryn Torain was taken into custody on Thursday immediately after the sheriff’s street crimes unit raided her home at 702 Elizabeth Street. The deputies who took part in this search reportedly retrieved 17.93 grams of “suspected” crack, a handgun, and an assortment of drug paraphernalia.

According to the sheriff’s office, Torain has been charged with the possession of a Schedule II controlled substance with the intent to sell or deliver the drug, maintaining a place for the sale of a controlled substance, and the possession of drug paraphernalia. The bond for the 72-year-old black female been set at $10,000.
