Eastern Alamance’s band had a role in the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament for women’s basketball – and appropriately it involved the Eagles, the same mascot that Eastern embraces.
The Eastern band filled in to support the Boston College Eagles in last week’s tournament at First Horizon Coliseum in Greensboro.
A week ago Wednesday, the Eastern group had a full day that began with a Boston College team send-off in downtown Greensboro. Then at the coliseum, the Eastern band performed the national anthem prior to the first game of the tournament.
Eastern’s band director is Ben Crotts.
In the first-round game, No. 12 seed Boston College rallied from a 19-point deficit to defeat No. 13 seed Syracuse 76-73. So the Eastern band was back the next day for a second-round game when Boston College took on 11th-ranked North Carolina, the tournament’s fifth seed, in the second round.

Boston College scored the first nine points of the fourth quarter for a 73-64 lead before the Tar Heels rallied for a 78-71 victory. So that ended the tournament stay for both groups of Eagles – those from Eastern Alamance and Boston College.
Third-seeded Duke won the tournament with Sunday’s 76-62 victory against top-seeded North Carolina State.
The Cummings band had played for Boston College teams – both men’s and women’s games – in some past ACC Tournaments in Greensboro.
