Eastern Alamance has hit a stride in girls’ basketball just in time for a game Tuesday night against unbeaten Southeast Alamance with first place at stake in the Mid-Carolina Conference.
“Letting them play basketball,” Eastern coach LeConnda Curry said. “Everybody has got their chance. We’re still fine-tuning things.”
Eastern beat visiting Williams 64-24 on Tuesday night with Rihanna Gregory scoring 16 points and Aliya Trollinger posting 13. The Eagles (11-2, 4-0 Mid-Carolina Conference) have an eight-game winning streak.
Eastern has a home game vs. Southeast on Tuesday night.
“That will be the real challenge,” Curry said.
Eastern collected a 68-52 victory at Western Alamance last Friday, outscoring the Warriors 36-22 in the second half. Makayla Scott had 14 points and Ty’Tiana Ross and Trollinger both had 13 points. Ross made three 3-pointers.
- Rreanna Johnson’s 14 points and Clara LaChapelle’s 12 points helped Southeast topped host Williams 60-26 on Friday night. The Stallions led 37-9 early in the third quarter before Williams connected on three consecutive 3-points shots. Ciera Payton’s 3 for Southeast halted the rally.
- Cummings rallied for a 57-55 home victory against Western Alamance in Tuesday night’s Mid-Carolina Conference game. Western built a 26-15 halftime lead by breaking away from an 11-11 tie.
Western had a scheduled non-conference home game with Northeast Guilford called off last week when Northeast Guilford cited a scheduling conflict. The boys’ game was held.
- Southern Alamance lost 60-48 in Tuesday’s Mid-Carolina Conference game at Roxboro Person.
Last week, Evelyn Garrison had 12 points and Sarah Kathryn Maness provided 10 points and 13 rebounds as Southern topped visiting Bethany Community 53-31 to avenge a November non-league loss.
- Clover Garden defeated visiting River Mill 48-17 in the Central Tar Heel 1-A Conference on Monday.
Clover Garden won 42-36 at Chatham Charter last week with Hanna Tickle scoring 13 points. River Mill fell 27-22 to visiting Southern Wake Academy.
- The Burlington School lost 57-50 last Friday at Caldwell Academy, then won the next day 50-40 vs. Phoenix Academy.
Kamryn Russell had 17 points in the first of those games and 24 in the next. Kennedy Harrelson notched 18 points vs. Phoenix Academy of High Point.
- Burlington Christian Academy lost 46-20 to Trinity Academy and 107-19 to Concord Academy last week.
