It’s election day in Alamance County and across North Carolina.
Polls are open until 7:30 p.m.
Locally, much attention is focused on the Republican sheriff’s race between incumbent sheriff Terry Johnson, Billy Clayton, and Dana Byrd Pasour. The winner may become sheriff, depending on whether a ballot petition by unaffiliated candidate Shannon Long is successful. Those names are to be turned into the board of elections today.
The clerk of court’s position will be determined by whichever of the two candidates – incumbent Kristie Miller Culler, who was appointed in 2025, and Steve McGilvray. No Democrat filed for the post.
Other competitive races are for county commissioner with incumbent Republicans board chairman Kelly Allen and vice chairman Steve Carter hoping to represent their party on the fall ballot. Challengers are Peter Boykin, Jeff Throneburg, and Henry Vines.
On the Democratic side, there are three contenders for the two fall spots: Burlington pastor and activist Ramona Allen, Mebane city councilman Sean C. Ewing, and Warren L. Parks, Jr.
